Internet Explorer 7

Vor ca. einer Woche fand ein Chat zwischen dem IE7-Entwicklerteam und Vertretern von Unternehmen statt, wo die Kunden sich über die Features des IE7 direkt beim Team informieren konnten.
Wo es hier an Kompetenz fehlt wird hier sichtbar:

A: I am sorry, I need more info to answer your questions. I am not familiar with that particular issue. Can you provide me with a little more background/context

*lol* das gute Entwicklerteam weiß nichts vom Underscore-Hack. Und wer soll das dann korrigieren?

Q: Do you plan to support XHTML in IE7? I hope you will not add support for application/xhtml+xml unless you truly treat it as XHTML is supposed to be treated (different DOM, events, CSS rules, all of it).
A: We are not going to get to full XHTML support in this release. As a result we will not accept the application/xhtml+xml as that would be tantamount to telling a lie and very unhelpful.

Bei IE7 wird XHTML also zu NIXHTML. Danke, dass Ihr so nett an uns Entwickler denkt.

Q: Why do you believe that Internet Explorer will still matter in the next 2 to three years with popular alternatives out there on the market, especially with the success of FireFox gaining a whopping 75 million users?
A: While our competitors do hold a noted share of the browsing market, we are sure that IE7 will always be relevant due to the integration between all of our products as well as new features. (...) All in all, there will always be people who prefer certain browsers (...) but we are sure that by the time of release we will have a far more feature rich application than Firefox can offer.

Sie verstehen es einfach nicht, oder sie wollen es nicht verstehen.

Jedoch hat mich das erstaunt:

Einsicht ist der erste Weg zur Besserung.

Woooha! Wird IE10 standardkonform?. Dazu gibts auf dem Webstandards-Project diesen Artikel, der noch hoffen lässt, allerdings ausdrücklich auf längere Zeit hin. Bisweilen bestätigen Sich allerdings alle Befürchtungen zum CSS-Support von IE7.

Edit: Entgegen meinen Befürchtungen werden aber viele Bugs behoben, so wie Jörg hier bereits hoffte. Die Liste dazu gibt es hier . Das allerschönste ist imho u.a. der CSS 2.1 Selector support (child, adjacent, attribute, first-child etc.) und :hover auf allen Elementen (endlich!!!), das nun endlich integriert wird. Microsoft scheint langsam die Schiene zu bekommen. Wenn ich schon immer schimpfe muss ich das zumindest anerkennen ;)

Bei den Antworten frag ich mich allerdings auch, ob bereits Nachfolgeversionen geplant sind - das Ziel, den Webentwicklern das Leben zu erleichtern, scheint den Zitaten zufolge wohl eher ein langfristiges zu sein?

Stimmt, man rechnet selbst nach Erscheinen des IE7 noch mit einer längeren Umstellungszeit, sodass z.B. application+xhtml/xml auf spätere Versionen verschoben werden.

Microsoft müsste dafür zuviel an der IE-DOM/CSS-Implementation ändern, um sie standardkonform zu bekommen, und das schaffen sie nicht bis zum Release ;) So spricht man bereits jetzt von IE 7.5 und IE8.

Viele sind aufgrund der anscheinend plötzlichen Sinneswandlungen skeptisch gegenüber Microsoft (wenn man sich die Unmenge an Kommentaren so liest) und halten das alles nur für den Versuch einer Imageaufbesserung des IE aufgrund des Erfolgs von Firefox, den Microsoft immer wieder gerne relativiert ('the download count is not equal to the users...').

Ganz nebenbei wird erwähnt, dass im IE noch CSS1-Fehler ausgebügelt werden müssen ;)
Aber - das klingt alles vielversprechend, besonders wenn man die Entwickler über W3C-Standards reden hört. Bisher kein Wort von neuen "eigenen" Standards wie die scrollbar-Sachen im IE6. Ich verspreche, dass ich gerne aufhöre mit den Klagen, wenn Microsoft den Kurs wirklich ändert. Für den IE6 passe ich meine Seiten dennoch nicht an, er entstammt noch Zeiten, in denen der Konzern wenig von Standards hielt, weils sie die 90%-Marke an IE-Usern größenwahnsinnig gemacht hatte.

Man hält auch damit, ob es nach dem Erscheinen des IE7 ein SP für IE6 geben wird, noch hinter dem Berg. Den IE 7 wird es für Windows 2000 nicht geben (man denkt jetzt schon an Longhorn aka. Vista), so ist es wahrscheinlicher, man lässt den Support der alten Versionen einfach auslaufen. Die Besserung wird kommen, aber momentan schleppend. Vielleicht geht nach der ersten Release des IE7 alles zügiger Richtung Standard, mal sehen.
