Wie du ja auch schon geschrieben hast: beim Programmieren ist es angenehmer und effektiver mit einem LAMP zu arbeiten, als mit einem auf Windows zurechtgebogenen WAMP (oder dieses XAMPP-Paket von Apache Friends). Für einfache Ansprüche mag das ja reichen, aber vieles läuft eben anders als unter Unix/Linux, oder ist unter Windows nicht verfügbar, so dass man die Scripte dann eh nochmal unter LAMP testen muss. Unter LAMP kann man original testen, und ohne solchen Krampf wie sich Scripte zu installieren, die z.B. einen Unix-Cronjob simulieren

Zum Beispiel wenn ich den Bildschirmschoner abstellen will, friert die Anwendung ein. Will ich dann den PC abschalten, funkt auch das nicht mehr.

ctrl-alt-zurück hilft dann insoweit, dass ich einen "geordneten" Neustart machen kann. Es genügt nicht, einzelne Programme zu schliessen (sofern sie noch zu schliessen sind).

Ich vermute, dass es mit dem Grafikkartentreiber zu tun hat, aber mit meinem wenigen Wissen und den vielen wichtigen Dateien auf meiner Festplatte lass ich Experimente lieber.

Was haben die Daten auf Deiner Festplatte mit der Grafikkarte zu tun? Ich würde mir keine großen Sorgen machen, wenn nur mal X blockiert. Die wichtigen Daten hast Du zudem doch bestimmt auf einer anderen Partition. Was ist es denn für eine Grafikkarte? Hast Du propietäre Treiber dafür installiert, hast Du an den xorg.conf-Einstellungen gedreht, hast Du Beryl installiert? Wie ist die Ausgabe von glxinfo? Was ist das für ein Bildschirmschoner, ein spezieller OpenGL oder Standard? brauchst Du den überhaupt? Ctrl+Alt+Backspace startet nur X neu, was sagt dmesg nach dem Hänger? ... Ist das der einzige Fall, wo X einfriert?

Wer wird denn gleich beim 1. Problem aufgeben... :)

Nachdem mein Progger das Problem nicht lösen konnte (und der ist wirklich gut!).... gebe ich nicht gleich beim ersten Problemchen auf.

Standardbildschirmschoner; alles andere ist für mich Fremdsprache. ch bin Anwender ;)

... ehm, es gibt keinen richtigen Treiber für die Grafikkarte unter ubuntu, darum wird ein optimierter Treiber verwendet (oder so).

Na ja, anhand dieser Infos wird Dir keiner helfen können. Auch wenn ich nicht an den Fähigkeiten deines "Proggers" zweifeln möchte, würde ich mal unterstellen, dass das Problem dennoch lösbar ist. Was ist das für eine Grafikkarte?

Du meinst ein eingeschränkter Treiber? Für eine ATI? Den würde ich bei ATI-Chips nicht verwenden (im übrigen werde ich nie wieder eine ATI kaufen, nur mehr NVidia - nicht etwa wegen Qualitätsbedenken, sondern weil ATI keinen gescheiten Linux-Treiber hat). Verrätst Du uns wenigstens das Modell und postest die Ausgabe von glxinfo sowie Deine /etc/X11/xorg.conf? Der Versuch schadet ja nicht... ich will Dich natürlich auch nicht zwingen ^^

Aber ich habe jetzt einen ganzen Haufen an Updates erhalten und darunter ist ein Treiber für die Grafikkarte. Mal gucken obs besser klappt.

Falls das nichts nützt ... bitte poste mal die /etc/X11/xorg.conf - auch wenn Du sie nicht bewusst geändert hast. Terminal:

gedit /etc/X11/xorg.conf

kopieren, in code-Block einfügen.

glxinfo > ~/glxinfo.txt
gedit ~/glxinfo.txt

kopieren, in code-Block einfügen.

Dazu noch das Modell Deiner Grafikkarte (findest Du am einfachsten im Windows-Gerätemanager heraus) oder das Modell Deines Laptops, falls es ein solcher ist.
